Withlarger holes the throw length may not be long enough which will stillallow the spiral coil to spin off the book. For these applications,premium oversize oval hole crimping pliers are suggested.Youneed to squeeze the pliers hard enough to bend the end of the coil overbut not so hard that you end up cutting the end off. This can take alittle bit of getting used to.High volume spiral coil userscan sometimes find the coil crimping process to be tedious and laborintensive. There are several automated crimping tools available on themarket that range in price from a few thousand to tens of thousands ofdollars.
These are designed for high volume users and often requiresignificant amounts of setup time.Some new coil bindingmachines are including a small crimping tool on the machine itself.These new tools are actually fairly easy but are still very expensive.Still they are a good alternative for people who greatly dislikecrimping documents with these pliers. Recommendation: I would recommend that every user of coil binding have a pair of coilcrimping pliers. Many machines come with a pair. If yours doesn't youshould make sure that you add one onto your order.Highvolume users might consider other crimping options. On account of this machinebeing designed to bind only thinner documents, Akiles did not include adepth of margin control on the Rubicoil. For most people this won't bea problem. However, it is something that you may want to note.You will have to buy your own crimping pliers, as they are not included. Recommendation: As a well put togethermachine at a very reasonable price, the Rubicoil would make a nicechoice for a person or small business that is looking to get intospiral coil binding. There is not a lot of flexibility involved withthis machine, and the process will be on the slow side, but as an entryinto very low-volume spiral coil binding, you can't really go wrongwith this machine.
